#19PBbios & Photos of the Month

March 14, 2019

Very excited to be part of #19PBbios — 19 fascinating picture book biographies releasing in 2019! In this "golden age of picture book biographies," authors and illustrators have come together to share new books with librarians, educators, fellow kidlit pros, parents — anyone who loves to read kids engaging true stories about inspiring people. Learn more about this group and all the books on the 19PBbios website.

Sharing photos of the month below:

  • Celebrating Janet Collins in Women's History Month (March) and all year around: Janet Collins holds flowers in her dressing room after performing at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1951 - and becoming the first black prima ballerina at the Met. Despite being excluded from discriminatory dance schools and despite being told she wasn't supposed to be a ballerina because of the color of her skin, Janet followed her dreams and kept on dancing.

  • Reader photo: After reading BRAVE BALLERINA, Maya put on her wings and danced to the illustrations. Dance on! Thank you, Maya’s Book Nook
