It was an honor to participate in the 2019 History Book Festival in Lewes, Delaware. The History Book Festival is the first and only book festival in the United States devoted exclusively to history. On Friday, September 27, I had a fun author visit with more than 100 students at Rehoboth Elementary School. Then on Saturday, September 28, I gave a presentation about BRAVE BALLERINA to adults on a children’s literature panel featuring authors of picture books about amazing women from history. Rachel Dougherty presented on “Secret Engineer: How Emily Roebling Built the Brooklyn Bridge”, and Patricia Valdez discussed her book “Joan Procter, Dragon Doctor: The Woman Who Loved Reptiles.” Ilona Holland, author and retired Harvard Graduate School of Education faculty member, moderated the panel.
